Tutor Information
Tutor Description Greetings! Independent, well educated, articulate, goal-oriented, committed, loyal, intelligent, and fast-witted are some of the adjectives that apply to my character and personality. In the course of contract teaching and substitution assignments throughout the greater Los Angeles, California region, my students often ask questions regarding names of institutions that I have attended and courses/majors I have under taken. Laughingly, I reply to them that it is far easier to name/list the institutions/majors I have not been involved with when it comes to this region. After high school graduation (Manual Arts-1967) I enrolled in and completed a two year liberal arts/ engineering curriculum at L.A. Southwest College that culminated with an Associate in Arts degree; sandwiched between this academic journey was an Industrial Technology stop-over at L.A. Harbor College and a summer Aerospace Design Certificate course from Long Beach City College. From L.A. Southwest College in 1972 I transferred to UCLA to complete the requirements for, and be awarded, the Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics/ Mathematics minor. After collecting a few 'real world experience' years in the retail management industry (Kmart), I completed the requirements for the Associate in Science degree for Radio Communications/Electronics at LA Trade Technical College near downtown Los Angeles. After a nine year stint Field Engineering for the front running company (Tymnet/Timeshare) that spawned what is now the 'internet/web' from the military's ARAPANET, it was on to the teaching profession as an Emergency Credentialed Mathematics instructor for Markham Middle School in Watts, California as part of the Health Magnet School there. Some nine years hence I completed the requirements for, and have been awarded, the Preliminary Single Subject (Mathematics) California teaching credential from California University at Dominguez Hills in Carson, California (CSUDH) and find myself currently in demand for substitution services from several school districts, charter schools, and temporary agencies. This route, as opposed to contract teaching which I have nine years of experience doing, allows freedom of flexibility in pursuing business and personal hobby interests including reading, travel, and family projects. So, as my history indicates, I am a person who enjoys the plunge and challenge uniquely provided by the educational and business industry. Also, I enjoy helping kids plan and manuver their ways through the increasingly complex juggernaut that the pursuit of educational preparation poses for them presently. |
