Tutor Description
Hello,
My name is Cheryl and I have been tutoring math since 1995. I received my BS in Mathematics from Ashland University in 1993 and my BS in Business from Miami University in 2006. I completed my MBA from the University of Phoenix in April of 2009.
I currently live in Oxford, OH which is the home of Miami University. My students range from middle school all the way to college level. I have tutored students in the following subjects: algebra, calculus, trigonometry, geometry, probablity, and statistics.
During my initial contact with a prospective student, or their parents, I ask questions about what the problem areas are and what topics are currently being talked about in class. I also try to gather information about the student's math background.
I prefer to meet students in a public setting such as a library as opposed to in their home. I have found that meeting students at a local library provides the student with a sense of purpose and eliminates the distractions that are found in the home. However, I am not opposed to meeting with a student in their home.
I ask the the student bring their textbook and class notes to the sessions. I start by asking the student if there is anything in particular that they wish to talk about. I review homework, quizzes, exams etc with the student. We go over class notes and work sample problems. I also bring a textbook to the session as a reference and source of practice problems.
NOTE: I DO NOT DO HOMEWORK FOR THE STUDENT. If the student is having difficulty with a homework problem, then we will work through a similar problem as an example. I expect students to do their own homework.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Workman
Math is like playing the piano... it is a skill that must be practiced in order to develop proficiency.
